Better Living Show
In March, 2008 Raindrops to Refuge was invited to participate in the first annual Portland Better Living Show. The show focused on sustainable living with displays featuring electric and hybrid cars, solar and geothermal power, natural landscaping, and eco-fashion, among many other things. The event was a huge success with over 20,000 people in attendance (more than double the expected crowd).
As one of five non-profits invited to participate in the show, R2R staff and volunteers handed out literature and gave advice on water conservation, rain catchment, backyard habitat, endangered species, organic gardening, tree care, the Tualatin River, hazardous materials in your home, green cleaners, things you can do at home to offset global warming, how to stop litter in your community, pharmaceuticals in your water supply, and our very own eco living guide and eco buying guide. We also had activity books for kids and we sold our brand new 100% organic cotton chocolate brown grocery totes with our new logo on them. Of all the information that we gave out, the most popular items were organic gardening, green cleaners, and the eco living guide and eco buying guide. R2R Director, Lisa Jo Frech, gave a presentation titled Watershed Protection Beginning At Home, during which she led a discussion on watershed stewardship.
